bayern photonics pools the interests of about 90 companies and research facilities in photonics. The optical technologies are one of the fastest growing industry branches in Europe. As “enabling technology” they are the base for other technological advances and their applications.


The Cluster Nanotechnology is a network of nanotechnology competencies from industry, research, politics and academia. They focus on connecting small and medium-sized companies among each other as well as with universities, colleges and research facilities. The goal is to efficiently transfer results of research, development and innovation efforts into market-ready products and the facilitation of cooperation with specific projects. Topics include nanomaterials, hybrid materials, process development, quality control, communications, and risk-reward-analysis.


EPIC (European Photonics Industry Consortium) is a industry association that promotes the sustainable development of organisations working in the field of photonics in Europe. Members encompass the entire value chain from LED lighting, Photovoltaic solar energy, Photonics Integrated Circuits, Optical components, Lasers, Sensors, Imaging, Displays, Projectors, Optic fiber, and other photonic related technologies. EPIC fosters a vibrant photonics ecosystem by maintaining a strong network and acting as a catalyst and facilitator for technological and commercial advancement.

The Photonics Hub GmbH has taken over the operational business for Optence e.V. since 2019.
